Dos Attack From Limelight Networks?
I noticed a slow connection about a month ago, so I loaded up Wireshark/Ethereal and…
discovered a lot of traffic from a certain IP address.
A whois lookup revealed it was from Limelight Networks…
I don’t run any server from this laptop, so i don’t know how the tcp/syn packets were slowing me down, but it certainly hit hard.
anyway, I blacklisted the IP with iptables,
about a week later (not so sure about how long) the same thing happened, wireshark revealed that yet again massive ammounts of network traffic were coming from Limelight Networks!
Has anyone else had this problem?
I mean, i don’t even have a server, theres no reason i should be the target of this attack. maybe it’s just a programming glitch in some mass scanning thing… I don’t have the slightest idea.

DoS attacks can come from any network and any computer. Don’t take the attack personally as this type of thing happens every day.
Perhaps LimeLight Network is just one of many large providers in your area?
I would do a WHOIS on the IP range and then contact your ISP and let them check their logs. They can easily contact Limelight and even block them if necessary. You might not be the only one being probed by them.
Good luck!
Definitely agree with the first answerer. It’s not a personal attack; just contact your ISP and explain what’s going on.
